To become an EMT, you will need to complete a state-approved EMT program, consisting of 170-200 hours worth of instruction, obtain your course certification, and pass the National Registry exams. We offer the training right here at our training facility! Under the Education Tab, select "Emergency Medical Technician" to see our upcoming classes.
What is the difference between an Emergency Medical Responder and Emergency Medical Technician?
The main difference lies in the level of training and the scope of practice. A EMR is trained to provide basic life-saving interventions while waiting for a higher level of care to arrive, while an EMT has a broader skill set and can administer more medical treatment to a patient. With the ability to complete a broader set of skills, an EMT is the lowest level of EMS provider who may treat a Basic Life Support patient in the back of an ambulance. The difference in the training program is often about 120 hours.
How much does it cost to become an EMT?
The cost of becoming an EMT can vary depending on the training program and location. On average, the cost could range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, however there are multiple methods of tuition assistance and reimbursement for you to apply for once you are trained. Our extensive training program for EMT's is $1250.00, which is lower than most other Education Institutes.
