As the snow begins to melt, the days get longer, and signs of spring return to the Moshannon Valley, we're looking forward to a season of growth - not just in the weather, but in our organization, community involvement, and training opportunities.

Team Updates

As part of our expansion, we have hired many new employees over the last month. We'd like to welcome Paramedic Bryant Mahute,  EMT Foster Heasley, EMT Cerina Avery, EMT Josh Neeper, and EMT Katlyn Folmar to our staff. We also have some big news coming out regarding our staff, so be sure to keep following us to see what the commotion is all about!

New employees begin their 6-week long orientation.

Upcoming Training Programs

Our Summer Semester EMT training program under our Education Institute is set to begin on May 29th and will conclude on August 14th. If you're interested in becoming an EMT, be sure to visit our website under the education tab, and select "Emergency Medical Technician".

Continuing Education is scheduled on April 17th, 2025 at our training center. Any EMS providers are permitted to attend. No cost.

MVEMS will also be instructing an ACLS (June 16th) and PALS (June 17th) class at our training center. Contact tthomas@movalleyems.com to register.

Education Institute Data

As we reflect on another successful year, we are proud to present a snapshot of the progress, growth, and community impact we have achieved together through our public safety education and outreach initiatives. This year, our mission remained clear: to educate, inspire, and support the next generation of EMS professionals while strengthening the bond between our agency and the communities we serve.

Every training program, classroom session, and community event we participated in was field by a genuine commitment o public service. We understand that education is more than just meeting standards - it’s about building confidence, developing critical skills, and shaping compassionate, capable providers who will carry the torch of public safety into the future.

Through continued collaboration with local schools, public events, and recruitment efforts, we’ve worked to ensure that our presence is not only seen but felt - offering education, resources, and opportunities to anyone interested in making a difference. We believe in planting seeds today that will grow into a stronger, more resilient system of care for tomorrow.

To our instructors, partners, and most importantly, our students - THANK YOU. Your dedication, curiosity, and courage are what drive us forward. As we look ahead, we remain committed to building an inclusive and forward thinking educational environment where everyone has the chance to thrive.

The data from last year is in, and the numbers are outstanding for our Institute. Data has shown a significant increase in education programs over the last 3 years, from 216 total students in 2022, to 1,171 students in 2024. A total of 1,640 hours worth of training was conducted by our institute through 142 different classes. Our institute taught 44 new clinicians at the EMR or EMT level, and those individuals completed 2,203 hours worth of clinical education time in an ambulance. Since the successful completion of their testing, 30 of these individuals have began using their certification, either with a paid EMS or Fire Service, or as a volunteer.

In addition to the institute data above, our staff have spent over 150 hours at special events in the last year promoting our service and ensuring public health is a priority.

EMS, PD, and FD members from around the area participate in an Active Shooter Drill at Philipsburg Osceola Elementary School in August of 2024.

Spring Safety Tips from MVEMS

As winter fades and spring storms roll in, here are a few key safety tips to keep your family safe:

Beware of Downed Power Lines: Never approach or touch a downed line, even if it looks inactive. You should stay at least 30 feet away and keep pets and kids clear. Call 911 immediately and report the location. If a power line falls on your car, stay inside and wait for emergency crews.

Watch for Flooded Roadways: Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down; 12 inches can sweep a car away. Turn around, don't drown. Never drive around Fire Police or Barricades.

Be sure to watch for increased pedestrian and cyclist traffic as the weather warms!

Call volumes often increase with the nice weather. MVEMS has responded to a total of 832 emergencies so far in 2025.

We would like to give a huge shout out and Thank You to PMG PA Corporation for their donation of an office set up (Desks, Cubicles, Etc.), allowing all of our administrative staff to have a bit of privacy while still all being in the same room!
